The Importance of Brushing Your Dog's Teeth

By Sam Roxas

When we talk about dog care, one of the key issues of dog owners is how they can brush their dog's teeth. Sadly, there also are some people that think that their dogs can forego brushing their teeth.

Now, just like eating and respiring, proper hygiene is a necessity for dogs. It doesn't take a genius or a mental arithmetic whiz to figure that out. And just to give you an idea of how vital doggie teeth care is, here is an excerpt of an article taken from Cesar Millan's website.

This is an article about the significance of looking after your dog's teeth.

Grown dogs can learn to become happy with dog teeth cleaning, but make things simpler for yourself by working with your dog as a young dog. And take your dog to the veterinarian if you see indicators of dental problems:

- Bad breathe
- Change in eating or dog chewing habits
- Pawing at the face or mouth
- Depression
- Exorbitant drooling
- Misaligned or missing teeth
- Discoloured, broken, missing or crooked teeth
- Red, distended, unpleasant or bleeding gums
- Yellowish-brown tartar crust along the gum line
- Bumps or growths in the mouth

Aggressive dog gnawing on hard objects can cause broken teeth. Ensure you are providing safe objects for your dog to nibble on. And during your dog's annual check-ups, make sure your vet takes a good look at their teeth to keep an eye open for any issue you may miss.

Imagine what your teeth would feel a bit like if you didn't brush for 3 years. There would be delicate gums and an enormous amount of material and infection under your gum line. I'm of the opinion that I wouldn't let a dentist clean carefully under my gum line if they hurt that much!

The cause of maintaining good oral health is that it prohibits the bacteria and waste under the gums from causing life endangering diseases. You do not achieve this if you don't clean adequately under the gum lines, and you can't clean under the gum lines if it stings.

This is the quandary. If your dog teeth cleaning were done on the daily, you may get away with cleanings while your dog is awake (if he or she is highly docile). Usually awake dog dental care is focused on removing the visible tartar and does nothing about the more serious illness under the gums. If nevertheless , like many of us, you do not brush daily, the only option that may give your dog the extra years of life is to have the dog teeth cleaning done while under sedation.

By Heather Richards

In these instances, there are 3 basic considerations when Travelling with a snake: heat, sound, and security, although not really in that exact order. By keeping these 3 basics under consideration when preparing the foundations for and during your travel, you will be sure to arrive at your destination safely and securely.

Like many reptiles, and even humans, snakes 'hear ' thru vibrations. Though they haven't any outer ear, their internal ear picks up vibrations that their brain then interprets as sound. These vibrations allow snakes to detect the sounds of their surroundings. If you haven't already put 2 and two together, travel in a vehicle is a continual bombardment of vibration. These vibrations can be highly stressful to a snake. To make the trip as pet friendly as practical for your snake, you are going to need to think about all or any methods of reducing vibration and sound for your snake during travel.

One of the best paths to reduce vibrations is by placing soft froth around your snakes travel container, especially concentrating on the space between the floor and the bottom of the container. Generally, a 3-5" thick piece of froth works adequately to attenuate vibration and sound. Another great way to reduce sound is by placing balled up newspaper or other soft items inside the container with your snake. This not only acts as a sound barrier but also provides great hiding spots for you snake. Naturally, reducing all sound and vibration is most unlikely , however , these practices and careful driving technique can also help. It is also good practice to close and open doors fastidiously and silently, and to limit the amount of heavy music you play during travel.

Your snake will also have to be soundly contained. Just like any other pet, your snake must have their own place they can feel secure and safe. You don't need a huge aquarium for transport as your snake doesn't need exercise or liberty to ramble during travel. A suitably sized plastic container will work fine so long as it's got a secure lid or top. You'll also want to be sure your snake has satisfactory ventilation and does not finish up buried beneath other luggage.

Finally, your snake will need to keep hot during travel. Heat packs work fine if the temperature goes below 60 degrees and can persist for up to 60 hours at a time, though no more than 24 hours of travel time is recommended for your snakes health and sanity. When setting up your snake's temperature, it is wise to have a digital temperature gauge in his travel container to monitor how he is doing. Never place your snake without delay on a heat pad or pack as you can significantly endanger or even kill a snake by doing so. Always ensure that there's a fabric or blanket over the heat source that he will not be in a position to penetrate or worm his way into during travel. Doing this will protect him and possibly save his life. It is also an excellent idea to test and watch your snake's container's temperature before you travel to guarantee everything runs smoothly and without Problems.

Although it is a rare case to need to transport your snake, it's always best to be prepared and take all care to avoid situation and accidents. Considering these 3 basic things "sound, heat, & security "when Travelling with your pet snake can and will reduce stress and make Travelling simpler for both you and your pet.

Get Rid Of Matted Hair With De-Matting

By Sam Goodman

Its astounding how quickly a dog's hair could become tangled and matted. It generally looks like there are small weavers hiding in your puppy's coat. When you turn your back, it is like they start functioning and carry on at a high rate of speed till your dog has clumps of matted hair that manage to refrain from your every attempt at getting rid of them.

Stop. Catch your breath. Tug no further till you have the best tools to get the task done with a least amount of distress to the pet. De-matting is a job that requires time and it's a talent that's honed with practice.

Mats, that are actually clumps of tangled hair, are most often found on the legs, abdomen and tail, but this does not mean that others areas won't get tangled. They do. Mats can form around clumps of dirt or burrs. Dead hair easily tangles, but regular brushing and conditioning of the coat will help minimize the damage.

It's necessary to realize that mats can form on the coats of dogs of all ages. This suggests that puppies need the same frequent grooming measures that grownup dogs do. So, you need to get your puppy accustomed to being brushed and groomed.

Dog coats that are transitioning from a puppy coat to and adult coat are probably the most prone to matting. Long hair will mat a lot more easily than very short hair. Dogs that spend a lot of time in the water are more vulnerable to having matted hair. The incorrect grooming tools will do more harm than good.

Nutrition will additionally affect the coat. If you observe a puppy's hair under the microscope, you'll see that it has scales on the cuticle. Mats form because the broken hair scales snag different hairs and dirt, causing everything to entangle together. Healthy hair is smooth, so it's not as probable to knot with its neighbors.

Groomers differ on the techniques they use to de-mat a dog's hair. Some believe it is best to first bathe the dog since a clean and conditioned coat is a lot more easily de-matted. Others say it's best to deal with the mats before getting the coat wet since water tightens a mat. A lot is dependent on how badly the dog's hair is matted and a few of it is simply personal preference. When trying to detangle a mat, you might try splitting the clumped fur into smaller pieces using a pair of shears. Another precious tool for this job is a plastic letter opener that resembles a business card with one-toothed blade in the corner. Slice the matted area lengthwise into smaller pieces, which are typically a lot easier to untangle.

Always use caution when cutting something close to your dog's skin. It is all too easy to nip a fold of skin or the tip of a tail. Use your tools in a way that permits you to chop off from the dog's skin.

Once you manage to rid your dog of its tangled hair, be watchful and employ a daily grooming program. It takes simply a couple of minutes to brush or comb a puppy's hair. It will take hours to cope with removing matted clumps from your dog's coat. Keep in mind, clean and healthy hair is much less apt to mat in the first place.
