An Important Part Of Dog Ownership Is To Keep Your Dog Safe

By Sandy Rutherforde

A lot of dog owners typically are not aware of the safety issues that concern their pets in the world of today. There are lots of articles on the web about ways to keep your dog safe that address these concerns and quite a few other concerns pertaining to the proper care of dogs. An example is carefully watching everything that your dog eats, whether inside or outdoors. If your dog eats garbage on the ground, it could possibly go into shock or it might be poisonous for your dog.

There are many factors to consider with dog safety but the point here is the fact that pet owners will need to be aware of their pet's behavior and what they're doing at all times to both keep the dog safe and other individuals at the same time. A person must train their dogs very carefully so that their behavior is appropriate in the surroundings that their owners interact in regularly.

For instance, there are a few states in which there are actually punitive measures and penalties in cases where a dog bites a person or attacks someone. That's why one must use a leash with their pet in an effort to protect against any kind of unfortunate incident. A dog will need to also be in a fenced backyard and never allowed to roam your neighborhood. In essence this is about being cautious so as to prevent any long term damage to your dog or other people to be able to keep your dog safe.

There are a lot of responsibilities that come with having a pet, whether that is a dog or a cat or any other animal. It is pretty much like being a parent. Constant supervision is required, not just to avoid trouble but in addition to ensure the safety of your pet. There are lots of potential dangers that an individual must deal with and any kind of carelessness will lead to long term consequences. That is exactly why a person should recognize these concerns prior to taking on such a big responsibility.

Whether that's the task of feeding your dog, bathing your dog or taking him on a walk, it is about being careful and mindful just like a parent would do for their own kid. Many pet owners do not realize this and take this responsibility very casually. They are making a huge mistake by using such an approach towards their pets as they are not objects but living things who must be looked after and nurtured in a loving and caring way. In general, in relation to the concern of how to keep your dog safe, a person should take extra care to make this a smooth sailing experience instead of taking it lightly.

Pets and Children

By Georgina Davidson

Pets are part of many children's lives. The connection between pet and child can be breathtaking to behold -- unconditional love and caring care at their finest. But there's more to the kid-pet relationship than sentimental moments. Children can tend pets, but they need guidance to do the job right. Parental involvement, open discussion, and planning are necessary to help make pet ownership a positive experience for everyone. A kid, who learns to care for an animal, and treat it kindly and patiently, may get helpful training in learning to treat people the same way. Careless treatment of animals is unhealthy for both the pet and the child involved.

Normally all kind of pet can bring children happiness. But it is important to choose a pet that is right for your family, your home, and your lifestyle; and one that your child can help care for. Parents should be careful about having aggressive animals as pets. Foreign and unusual animals may be difficult to care for and should be considered very carefully.

Children can develop social skills by taking care of a pet. On the other hand certain guidelines apply: Since very young children (under the age of 3-4 years) should be monitored with pets at all times as they do not have the maturity to control their aggressive and angry impulses. But young children (under 10 years) are unable to care for a large animal, a cat or a dog, on their own. Then also the parents must oversee the pet's care even if they believe their child is old enough to care for a pet. If children become lax in caring for a pet, parents may have to take over the responsibility on their own. You can remind the children in a gentle, not scolding way, that animals, like people, need food, water, and exercise. If a child continues to neglect a pet, a new home may have to be found for the animal. Parents serve as role models. By observing their parents' behavior children learn responsible pet ownership.

Advantages of Pet Ownership

Children with pets show many benefits. Having positive thinking about pets can contribute to a child's self-esteem and self-confidence. Also optimistic relationships with pets can support in the development of trusting relationships with others. Likewise a good relationship with a pet can also help in developing non-verbal communication, compassion, and empathy. Different purposes for children can be served by pets: They can be safe recipients of secrets and private thoughts--children often talk to their pets, like they do their stuffed animals. They give lessons about life; reproduction, birth, illnesses, accidents, death, and bereavement. They can aid develop responsible behavior in the children who care for them. They provide a connection to nature and can teach respect for other living things.

With pets most children are gentle and appropriate. Some may be overly rough or even abusive. If such behavior continues, it may be a sign of major emotional problems. Any child who tortures, abuses or kills animals should be referred to a child and adolescent psychiatrist for a comprehensive evaluation.

Miniature Schnauzer Training and the Basic Commands to Teach your Dog

By Tracy Ayre

Providing your dog with miniature schnauzer training should not be a pain in the neck given that miniature schnauzers are usually easy to train, all thanks to this breed's intelligence, obedience and desire to please. Such characteristics enable them to participate in dog agility trials, obedience, showmanship, flyball and tracking. But in order for them to be qualified to the said competitions, there are lots of lessons they should learn first - one of these lessons is the basic obedience.

During obedience training, dogs are taught how to respond to the commands given by the handler or owner. These commands include:

Come

Training the come command is one of the most important lessons you'll need to teach your beloved pet. Through this command, you will be able to keep your pet safe when danger is approaching and prevent him from causing a mess or injuries to anyone around. Rather than go to your dog, calling him to come to you during circumstances like mealtime or before exercise session starts is also one way of demonstrating your confidence and position as leader of the pack.

Sit

Sit is an excellent command to use not only when you need to control your pet but also if there are unwanted behaviors you ought to modify. Let's take for instance your pet's jumping behavior. Instructing him to sit the moment you see him running to you can prevent him from even attempting to jump. And if you reward him each time he stays in sit position, he will eventually discover that sitting pleases you and earns him reward therefore will do it again.

Down

Much like come and sit command, down command is also a significant part of miniature schnauzer training. Your active and spirited miniature schnauzer is less likely to bolt across a busy highway and chase vehicles if he is in down position. Not only can it help you control your precious pet but can also make you obtain your pet's respect.

Stay

The stay command is frequently used with the commands sit and down. This command keeps your pet in sit or down position until he is released.

Heel

The heel command is used when walking with your dog. This is described as having your dog next to you, particularly on your left side, and parallel to your leg while walking. He should never walk ahead nor pull the leash ahead of you. A dog that has mastered this command is easy to walk with and less likely to pull the leash or run off.

These commands may be really simple yet, it should be carried out properly for these commands are basis when training other obedience commands such as play dead, roll over fetch and more.
